The dating game can be frustrating for even the most experienced player. As the singles population grows, the task of finding that potential partner does not become any easier.

Where do you go to meet that Mr or Miss Right, or at last Mr or Miss Right Now?

To discover the best place to find that special somebody The Sunday Mail gave three singles a mission in Brisbane.

They had exactly one hour to get as any phone numbers as they could.

The first single off the mark was Jess, a 20-year-old university student. Her destination: The Caxton Hotel in Petrie Terrace on a moderately busy Saturday night.

She positioned herself at a table a couple of metres from the bar and checked out the talent.

It seemed the talent was checking her out too. Within a few minutes, she had been approached by two young men and had taken down both their numbers.

Brimming with a new-found confidence, the blonde made her way over to a group of guys, and began to reel in the numbers.

By the end of the hour, Jess had programmed seven phone numbers into her mobile, and was somewhat surprised by the result.

”I don’t think I’ve ever got this many numbers in one night in my life,” she laughed.

So how would she rate The Caxton as a place to pick up?

”Probably 10 out of 10. I met a lot of nice boys there.”

The next volunteer was 19-year-old hospitality worker James, assigned to the Regatta Hotel at Toowong.

It was a busy Sunday night at the pub and James had moderate hopes.

”I’m going for five numbers tonight. If I get more that that I’ll be very happy.” he said.

Just 10 minutes into the night James had worked his magic, snapping up two phone numbers.

And it seemed it was a trend that would continue throughout the night. An hour later, the satisfied single had reached his target.

”I had heaps of fun,” he said.

”I met a few girls and there may be some potential there."

Finally, it was 28 year-old-sales assistant Brett’s turn.

Moving away from the nocturnal scene, Brett was given an online dating mission.
While considerably slower than the club or pub environment, the Internet also had its perks.

After an hour of scanning profiles and sending several e-emails, Brett was rewarded with two phone numbers.

”The social contact of getting to meet someone out at a club or pub is obviously a lot better, “he said.

”But online is just something a bit different, a bit of enticement and a bit of adventure.”

A co owner of dating agency You and I get Together, Brianne Tillyer, said ultimately, the best place for a single to meet someone was where they felt comfortable.

”Try to go for venues that suit your personality. I think people need to have an understanding of what suits them and go there,” she said.

But Ms Tillyer said while the location was important, the person’s personality and attitude was what really made the difference.

”It takes a pretty confident and positive person to go though that door and say. “Hey, I’m ready to let love in,” she said
